Aligning laminate countertops before gluing
Ordinary coat hangers make excellent positioning aids when aligning pieces of plastic laminate (i.e. Formica®) over a surface coated with contact cement glue.
Step-by-Step Directions
Coat both surfaces with Loctite® Contact Cement glue. |
Bend several wire coat hangers into an elongated shape. |
When the contact cement becomes tack-dry, lay the coat hangers about 8" apart. Then, place the plastic laminate on top of the coat hangers, and align the laminate and substrate. |
Working from one end to the other, remove the coat hangers, and adhere the laminate to the substrate. |
Tips
Loctite Contact Cement Brush Top applies smoothly and evenly by brush with no 'stringing'. It is non-flammable and low odor, making it ideal for indoor use. It achieves high strength bonds on contact - no clamping is required. Being a premium product, Loctite Contact Cement provides greater coverage and strength and is more resistant to heat, creep, water and oil than the multipurpose products so widely available.
