Building a custom toy box

Everyone can enjoy a little extra storage for your childrens’ toys. Make a custom toy box with Loctite® Wood Bonder™.

Step-by-Step Directions

Cut the following six pieces using ¾" plywood: 2 -36" x 24" pieces for the front and back, one 36" x 16- 1/2" bottom piece, two sides that measure 22-1/2 x 16 1/2" and a top that is 36" x 18".

Lay the bottom piece flat. Apply Loctite Wood Bonder to the front lip. Stand up the front piece against the bottom and attach it with four 1-1/2" screws. Repeat with the back piece.

Slide each of the side pieces into place between the front and back pieces. Apply Loctite Wood Bonder to the joint, and secure with three 1½" screws from the front, back and bottom to attach each side.

Attach the three safety hinges to the lid. Place one 3 inches from each end and then the third directly in the middle.

Place the lid on top of the box and attach the three hinges to the back.

Fill all of the screw holes with wood putty and let it dry.

Decorating the toy box: paint the box's exterior with a coat of primer. Allow to dry completely. Use spray paint for faster application. Apply a base coat of paint and allow to dry. Apply a second coat if needed. Trace each child's name on the box in very light pencil. Then give the kids small paintbrushes to fill in their names with different colors of paint. Use stencils or have the children paint their handprints to decorate the rest of the box.
