Our easy to follow guide provides a quick look at construction adhesives, application tips, and product advice. We’ll tell you all you need to know about heavy duty construction adhesives!

What is construction adhesive?

Adhesives provide high strength, low flexibility bonds between materials. Construction adhesives refer to a variety of heavy-duty glues that are used in construction and for remodeling. Choosing the right construction adhesive can sometimes be tricky, since the products often have overlapping functionality. We’re here to help you sift through the alternatives and steer you towards the best constructive adhesive for the job.

When are construction adhesives useful?

Construction adhesive is useful for a number of jobs, both indoors and outdoors. Loctite construction adhesives, for instance, are waterproof, weather resistant, gap filling, flexible, and will adhere to a wide range of building materials such as

  • drywall
  • molding
  • flooring / subflooring
  • tile
  • wall/ceiling fixtures
  • countertops
  • steel

plus many more!

Construction adhesives come in buckets, squeeze tubes and cartridges. All three have different methods for application, so here’s what you need to know.

Buckets – some heavy duty construction adhesives come in buckets, for jobs like FRP installations, bricks, drywalls, and foam boards. When using buckets, you need to spread the adhesive evenly across the entire surface with a V-notched trowel.

Tubes – tubes are handy when you have small sections of area to glue, like a small piece of baseboard. Loctite Power Grab Express All Purpose construction adhesive is a good example for this kind of application. It comes in a 3 oz. tube, making it ideal for small jobs around the house.

Cartridges – cartridges are the most common packages for construction adhesives. Since different cartridges have different ways of opening, simply follow the instructions on the cartridge of your choice.

If you’re working with embossed tileboard or smooth panelboard, you’ll need to follow up with silicone sealant and caulk the edges. It’s recommended to wait for the full cure time before you caulk.
