How to get super glue off clothes with household items

Once you’ve had that moment of horror—realizing you spilled super glue on your favorite jeans—you can relax. Chances are, you’ve already got all you need to remove the adhesive at home! Just grab a scraping tool and some acetone, aka nail polish remover. Both of these will allow you to remove super glue from any fabric.

Steps to removing super glue from fabric

To get dried super glue out of clothes, follow these steps:

  1. Use the edge of a spoon to scrape off larger chunks of the glue.
  2. Sometimes step 1 already does the job. If not, proceed to check a tiny spot of your fabric with acetone to see if it will impact the color. If the material is fine, soak a cotton ball in the acetone and apply it to the material.
  3. If there is still some super glue left on the item, proceed with a stain removal product and put it in the washing machine.
  4. Your item should be good as new!

If your garment is particularly delicate, take it to the dry cleaners to protect it from further damage.

How to remove super glue from shoes and more

If you’re into the latest shoe trends, this tip is for you. Removing super glue from shoes is best achieved by using the scraping method, or, instead of acetone, reaching for a bowl of warm, soapy water. Gently scrub, for instance with a toothbrush, until it’s all been removed.
