How to glue: Uses, techniques and ideas for fast repairs!

Artificial Content Title -- to be hidden

The number of ways to use glue is endless. Our guide explains how to glue just about anything. If you’re unsure about what kind of glue to use for different projects, check out our basic guide on how to glue anything under the sun!

The many ways of using glue

Glues come in many shapes and sizes and are not all created equally. Some glues have a rigid bond, some flexible. Some are in liquid form, some are gels intended for filling gaps. Some glues are intended for small around-the-house work, while other glues will help you build a house.

The type of glue you need depends on the job. Super glue, contact adhesives and epoxies might be better suited for smaller projects, while construction adhesives fit with bigger jobs. Knowing what material you’re bonding will help narrow down the options.

How to use glue on just about anything

Since there are so many different types of glue for different jobs, always check the label for individual cure times and instructions.

No matter what you’re gluing, there are a few basic instructions that are universal no matter the type of glue you’re working with. Here’s what you need to know.

  1. Clean the areas you’re gluing, make sure residue has been removed. Glue won’t adhere to greasy dirty surfaces.
  2. Remove the applicator cap and seal from the bottle.
  3. Test the glue on a disposable surface to check that it’s dispensing at a good rate.
  4. Apply the glue to one surface you’re gluing. Typically, there’s no need to apply glue to both surfaces except when using contact glue.
  5. Connect the surfaces and hold in place until the initial grab time has been reached.
  6. Tightly secure the lid back on after using glue.
  7. Store upright in a cool place.
  8. Allow for full cure time before using the object.
