When you first see a smudge of epoxy on a glass object, your first inclination might be to get a razor or putty knife and start scraping. Hold on though, epoxy is a pretty tough substance and you might scratch the glass. Read on to find ways to soften it up and make removing epoxy from glass much safer and easier.
There are several ways to soften epoxy so that it comes off glass more easily. Here are some things you will need:
- Paper towel
- Acetone or nail polish remover
- A heat gun or hairdryer
- A razor blade or sharp putty knife
- Glass cleaner
Solvent Method:
- Find some nail polish remover or acetone
- Soak paper towel in it
- Place on top of the epoxy and let it soak in for 15 minutes
- Remove the paper towel and rub the area with it
- Use a razor blade to scrape off the softened glue
- Clean the glass with glass cleaner or soap and water
- A 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water makes a great glass cleaner
- Repeat the above process if needed
Heat Method:
Gently heat the area for 1 minute to soften, then attempt to scrape off the glue with a razor blade or putty knife. After you remove the bulk of the epoxy, continue to get the rest of it off with one of the methods above.
