Where others might see a dead end, Loctite sees a Second Chance. That’s why we design products that make restoration projects easier for Pros and DIYers. It’s also the reason we took on a home restoration project in Cleveland, dubbed the 2nd Chance House.

A once-abandoned house in Cleveland, Ohio is getting a new lease on life. As part of our philosophy of giving Second Chances to items and places, we have partnered with Habitat for Humanity to transform this condemned home into a cozy space for a deserving family.

Loctite, a brand committed to fixing and renovation solutions, is extending its expertise beyond household repairs. We’re now restoring an entire home in collaboration with our strategic partners. This ambitious project will take a year.

2nd Chance House condition on the first tour

The initial condition of the 2nd Chance House

When we took our first tour of the property, we knew the work needed was more than anticipated. The years of abandonment had taken a toll on the structure’s integrity, making it uninhabitable and a candidate for demolition. There was water damage on one floor and overall deterioration of the entire property. But the historical house deserved a Second Chance, so we began the work in April 2024.

We have made some significant progress in the initial stages including:

  • Demolishing walls
  • Stripping away old wallpaper
  • Removing outdated fixtures like the bathroom, porch, and chimney

These steps are laying the groundwork for a fresh, welcoming environment that will soon become a cozy home.

Loctite's restoration partnerships

Our primary partner in this project is Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit committed to providing housing for families in need. Their vision revolves around a belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live. As such, they buy vacant homes and refurbish them safely to sell to qualified families.

Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity, in particular, has successfully rehabbed over 100 homes in less than a decade.

What makes our collaboration exciting is the shared values. Both organizations are committed to making a difference in the community while minimizing waste by giving items a Second Chance. We're eager to see what we shall accomplish together.

Other key partners

Our collaboration with Habitat for Humanity on this 2nd Chance House project brings together a diverse team of master builders, DIY enthusiasts, upcyclers, and volunteers from across the country. All are united by the goal of creating positive change one project at a time.

Everyone on the team is bringing their skills and passion to the project. Our trusted Pros are Tyler Grace, Sean Collinsgru, and Glenn Mathewson. Their expertise is complemented by a dedicated DIY team featuring Jessie Ecker, Clayton Juarez, Sydney Lorence, and Chris and Yvonne Johnson

Our dedicated team of volunteers will work on this year-long project to rehabilitate the house and demonstrate the power of restoring items through collaborative efforts and high-quality materials.

Loctite’s involvement in the 2nd Chance House

Our participation in this project goes beyond just sponsorship. We're leveraging our innovative products to ensure the renovated home is built to last.

We're documenting the process to help you see how you can give Second Chances to everyday items, whether reviving old furniture or fixing broken glass.

In short, we see a Second Chance where others might see a dead end. That's also because we believe in sustainability. Instead of rebuilding, we're renovating the home to reduce strain on landfills. As the project progresses, you'll witness the value of upcycling on a grand scale.

Home renovations come with unexpected challenges, even if you’re an experienced contractor, residential remodeler, or pro-DIYer. Our work in renovating the Cleveland house is a clear example.
