Well-planned and perfectly executed renovations can breathe new life into old houses. Loctite has assembled a team of highly skilled home renovation DIYers to work on the 2nd Chance House project. This guide sheds light on who they are, their plans for the project, and how they intend to achieve their goals.

Getting together for a good cause

Loctite and Habitat for Humanity have partnered to renovate a condemned house for a deserving family. The 2nd Chance House project is aimed at breathing new life into the house located in Cleveland, Ohio.

For this project, Loctite has recruited a team of highly skilled and widely known DIYers. Each team member will handle a specific part of the project. These home renovation DIYers will rely on their unique DIY skills and experience to create a wonderful new home using simple and sustainable techniques.

This article will cover everything you need to know about some of the DIYers on the team. We explore who they are, what they are tasked with and why, and how they intend to complete each of their projects.

The team members

Here’s a detailed breakdown of each home renovation influencer participating in Loctite’s 2nd Chance House project.

1. Clayton Juarez @TheWeekendBuilder. This multi-generational builder enjoys working on home renovations. The father of two also shares his professional exploits online with people across the nation. As one of the prominent team members, he can’t wait to get started.

On his first visit to the house, Juarez was amazed at the uniqueness of this century-old structure. He singled out the weird-looking ceiling, narrow staircase, and creepy basement as standout elements. The builder is tasked with converting the structure’s attic space into a unique and highly functional primary bedroom.

Having previously worked numerous jobs, the home renovations expert is more than ready to tackle his latest project. He plans to build a comfortable, relaxing space with a walk-in closet and full bath. The space also has a cool nook that he intends to incorporate into the overall design.

Clayton will follow a few simple steps to realize his vision for the space:

  • Clearing any elements he does not intend to incorporate in his new design on demo day
  • Framing up the entire space following the new building plans
  • Installing insulation to boost the comfort and energy efficiency of the new bedroom
  • Lastly, Clayton will install a vaulted ceiling to give the space a more spacious look and feel

2. Jessie Ecker @EyeInTheDetail. Jessie is a DIY trendsetter in her own right. Bit by bit, she has turned her '70s home into a breathtaking modern space. Something that she achieved in full view of the internet. As an experienced builder, she enjoys seeing how building things can impact lives. As such, she was more than excited to be part of the 2nd Chance House team. Jessie says this is one of the coolest projects she has participated in so far.

During demo day, Jessie was drawn to the structure’s amazing fireplace. She devoted her time and effort to transforming it into a showstopping piece.

Jessie has the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to transform the fireplace into something spectacular. Her action plan includes the following steps:

  • Designing a mockup that she’ll use to bring her vision to life
  • Removing the brick around the existing fireplace
  • Replacing the brick with stone attached using Loctite’s eco-friendly and highly effective products
  • Installing a new mantle for an updated look

Jessie is excited to be working with a brand championing sustainability. She plans to work in line with Loctite’s belief in minimizing waste at job sites. With that in mind, the passionate DIYer wants to use waste wood from the project to create a cool piece of art. The artwork will be the crowning jewel of the new fireplace.

3. Sydney Lorence @DIYSquid. Sydney is a skilled DIYer and stay-at-home mom. This exceptional home renovation enthusiast loves to save an old home. She considers the 2nd Chance House project one of the most rewarding things she has ever done. This project will allow a family to own a home and help the community. Sydney is buzzing to be part of it.

The renovated house will have 3 bedrooms. Sydney chose to work on updating each of the two children’s bedrooms. She installed accent walls and an accent ceiling in the spaces. Her main goal is to create spaces that make the kids feel at home.

This DIY influencer comes into this project having completely redone her beautiful 1920s farmhouse-style home. More importantly, Sydney was able to complete the job in a matter of months. She can’t wait to deliver the same exceptional results on this project.

Sydney is committed to creating child-friendly bedrooms. She plans to spend time with the family that will own the new home to better understand them and their needs. This will help her create a space that the kids will love to call home. The DIYer also plans to take advantage of Loctite’s push for sustainability. She will prioritize the use of Loctite’s sustainable products, recycled materials, and energy-efficient supplies and equipment throughout her project.
