The benefits of using spray adhesive on cardboard

If you’re gluing cardboard, chances are you need to cover a wide area with adhesive. Spray glues are perfect for this type of application, as the spray range covers larger areas with smooth even coats. Loctite offers 4 types of spray adhesives for a range of different projects.

One great choice for gluing cardboard is Loctite Spray Adhesive Multi-Purpose. This spray adhesive dries clear, won’t bleed through or cause wrinkling and curling on pictures or paper.

How to glue cardboard together

Now that you’ve gathered what you need, let’s get started! Here’s how to glue cardboard together with spray adhesive.

  1. Work in a well-ventilated area and protect the surrounding area.
  2. Pre-fit the material so you’re ready to fix the parts right after spraying.
  3. Open the can by turning the spray tip to the black dot.
  4. Shake the can 10-12 times to prep the adhesive.
  5. Hold the can vertically and spray across the surface in a continuous motion. Maintain 8-10 inches (20-25cm) from the surface.
  6. After applying a light even coat to one surface, join the two pieces and press together. Reposition quickly, if necessary. You’ll have a small window of time to peel apart the cardboard pieces if needed. The thicker the coat, the stronger the bond and shorter the reposition time.

Important: Don’t forget cleanup! To prevent the adhesive from curing in the spray nozzle, flip the can upside down and spray for approximately 2 seconds. Clean the spray tip with mineral spirits or turpentine.
