At Loctite, we believe in the power of a 2nd chance. That’s why we partnered with Habitat for Humanity to turn a crumbling, century-old house in Cleveland into a beautiful home for one deserving family.

The Loctite 2nd Chance House began as a condemned structure, uninhabitable after years of neglect. It was a clear candidate for demolition. But we knew we could use our innovative products and expertise to give the home a second chance.

In the latest episode on our YouTube channel, Chris and Yvonne check in with the 2nd Chance House crew as they show off the DIY home projects transforming this space.

Meet the dedicated DIYers that make up our 2nd Chance House crew:

  • Jessie Ecker (@eyeinthedetail): Jessie is an interior designer and professional builder. She is currently working to make the fireplace a stunning centerpiece of the home.
  • Clayton Juarez (@theweekendbuilder): This veteran DIYer and dad is leading the framing and drywall efforts in the attic, turning it into a primary bedroom and play area.
  • Sydney Lorence (@diysquid): Mother, home project enthusiast, and lover of old houses, Sydney, is transforming the kids’ rooms with thoughtful details like a lath ceiling accent.

Though the work is demanding and they’re racing against the clock, our amazing DIY crew is eager to turn this dilapidated old house into a cozy family home.

From the foundation to the rafters, we’re committed to a sustainable and beautiful renovation. Our 2nd Chance House crew members are honored to help build a home for a family in need while practicing eco-conscious building renovation. The whole team is hard at work on the home’s structural repairs and creative design elements.

Interior designer and builder, Jessie Ecker, inspires people every day with her @eyeinthedetail home renovation adventures and understands how to transform a tired space into a stunning sanctuary. When you walk into the 2nd Chance House, the fireplace is the first thing you see — and Jessie immediately knew it needed to be breathtaking. She’s going for drama and eye-catching detail. Framing out the front will add some size, while a gorgeous stone face and a larger mantle will give the room a showstopping centerpiece.

Chris and Yvonne take us to the attic, where Clayton Juarez, DIYer and founder of @theweekendbuilder, is overseeing all the framing and drywall installation. With his help, this space will become a primary bedroom and play area. This labor of love will take roughly a year, but it’s all worth it to see a single mom and her three kids gain a safe place to call home.

Home DIY projects, like lath ceiling accents, come together with Loctite Power Grab.

Sydney Lorence, stay-at-home mom @diysquid founder and a self-proclaimed lover of old houses, is excited to join in on the 2nd Chance House restoration. Sydney’s focus is the kids’ rooms. After demolition and prep work, she plans to add a lath ceiling and wall accents, which will seriously elevate the space. Using Loctite Power Grab construction adhesive ensures the accents will last for generations.

The Loctite 2nd Chance House crew shops for supplies at Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Chris, Yvonne, and the rest of the DIY crew head to Habitat for Humanity ReStore to hunt for materials and décor. Jessie sourced some stunning gold fireplace items and complimentary mantle decorations. Sydney found shelving for the kids’ room, as well as some other accent pieces — all for $59. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore not only helped the contractors save money by offering home goods and building materials for competitive prices but also helped the local community by using part of the proceeds to fund Habitat for Humanity’s mission.

Despite working against the clock, the 2nd Chance House crew is tackling some major projects and making serious progress.
