A PVC soccer goal is easy to build and move. Here’s how to make one.
1. Get the necessary materials and tools: You will need:
- Adhesive — Loctite Super Glue Plastics Bonding System
- PVC pipes
- A net
- T-joints
- Elbow joints
- Cable ties
- Circular saw
Tip: Vary the length of the PVC pipes in accordance with your desired goal size.
2. Cut pipes to length: Use a circular saw to cut the PVC pipes to your preferred lengths.
3. Fit the goal frame: Assemble the pieces, starting with the bottom section, then the top section, and finally the uprights. This way, you can check the fit before gluing. Everything should fit perfectly; if not, make the necessary adjustments.
4. Glue the joints together: Once you are comfortable with how everything fits together, disassemble the entire setup and apply adhesive to the joints before reassembling them. This will ensure the goal is strong and sturdy. Avoid gluing one end of the crossbar and the corresponding end of the bottom strut to make your DIY goal easier to disassemble.
5. Install the net: Fit the net and secure it properly to prevent it from being blown away by the wind. Thread the net through the crossbar and the bottom rear strut. Alternatively, you can use cable ties to secure the net to the crossbar, posts, rear support, and bottom struts. The cable ties should be installed about 8 to 10 inches apart.
6. Enjoy your soccer goal: Use your newly built PVC soccer goal to practice soccer moves in your backyard or at the park.
Looking for a sturdier, longer-lasting goal? If you or your family practices regularly, wood is a great option.
Here’s how to build a full-size soccer goal using wood.
1. Gather materials and tools: You will need the following supplies:
- Planks of wood—for one crossbar, two front posts, four connecting side sections (two for each side), a bottom strut, and two rear support struts
- Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control
- Screws
- Soccer net
- Two wooden dowels
- Electric drill
- Electric screw driver
- Set square
- Pencil
- Tape measure
- Workbench
- Rubber mallet
- Circular saw
- Safety goggles and gloves
- Two metal brackets and four floor anchors
- Screw hooks
Tip: Douglas fir, pine, and spruce are some of the best wood options for this DIY project. If you use locally sourced untreated wood, consider treating it with an eco-friendly wood protection oil.
2. Cut wood pieces to size: Measure your pieces of timber and cut them to size using your circular saw. With the help of your square, make a 15-degree cut at the top and bottom ends of the side support struts. Repeat this for the rear support posts as well.
3. Sand the wood: Sand all the pieces of wood to give them a soft finish and remove any splinters.
4. Screw the slats together: Attach the crossbar to the two posts using screws. Pre-drill the screw holes to avoid splinters. For added support, use two screws for each post. You can also use metal brackets to stabilize the joints. Connect the lower and upper side struts to the rear support post using screws.
Repeat this procedure for the opposite side wall.
5. Add the floor strut: Put the assembled section of the goal upright and align the floor strut with the rear side wall.
6. Drill holes for the dowels: Use your pencil to trace an outline of the floor strut on the bottom part of the inside of the rear support post. In the middle of the outline, drill a hole for a wooden dowel. Repeat this on the other rear support post. Follow this up by drilling two holes in the bottom strut, one in the center of each end.
7. Insert the wooden dowels: Apply adhesive to the wooden dowels and insert them into the floor strut. Once they are in place, join the floor strut to the side walls.
8. Add floor anchors: Screw the floor anchors on the outside bottom end of the rear and front support posts. These anchor the goal firmly to the ground.
9. Install the net: Now you can add a net to the goal. Install screw hooks around 20cm apart along the struts. Loop the net over the hooks to finalize the project.
