  • Versatility: Whether building a retaining wall or stunning garden feature, pavers allow you to create intricate patterns that match your desired look. Their versatility and flexibility in design give you the freedom to create custom designs easily.
  • Aesthetic appeal: Pavers come in a wide selection of colors, sizes, and shapes. Whether looking for a modern or traditional look, you can find paver options that match any style. When choosing a suitable style, consider the specifics of your project and the nature of the property.
  • Easy maintenance: Routine maintenance and cleaning are straightforward, ensuring lasting aesthetic appeal.

2. Prepare the ground: Once you have all the necessary supplies, you can start your project. The next step involves preparing the ground and laying the substrate. To keep pavers from sinking, excavate the topsoil and add gravel or your preferred base course material. Use the plate compactor to create a sturdy substrate.

The substrate is the foundation of any landscaping feature. The firmness of the underlying ground determines the thickness of the base course. If you have a hard subgrade, you don’t need to dig as deep as when you have a soft subgrade. Remember to compact the ground as much as possible, especially along the edges.

3. Install edging: With the substrate ready, consider installing edging for reinforcement purposes, especially when building a raised garden feature. Edging can prevent sideways movement of the landscape pavers and keep bedding from leaking out. This can be easily done by installing a soldier course of flat or standing paving stones.

4. Lay the first row of pavers: Starting from the straightest edge, install the first row of landscape blocks along the perimeter of the feature. Use string lines to keep everything in perfect alignment. Always lay full pavers before cutting and laying smaller pieces where necessary. Consider using a paver splitter or concrete saw to cut the stones cleanly.

5. Install pavers using landscape adhesive: Once the first row is properly installed, start stacking the overlying pavers. Get your construction adhesive and load it into a caulking gun. For the strongest bonds, use a utility knife to cut the tip to get a large bead of adhesive on each application.

Apply thick beads of adhesive about four inches apart and then place a paver on top. The stones will set on the adhesive under their own weight without added pressure.
