How to build a mini indoor soccer goal for kids

Artificial Content Title -- to be hidden

Building a DIY indoor soccer goal can be a fun family project with a big payoff. This guide shows you how to build one at home using readily available supplies.

Why build a DIY indoor soccer goal

Soccer is a popular and exciting sport that can be enjoyed just about anywhere. With an indoor soccer goal, your kids can still sharpen their skills even when outdoor conditions don’t permit.

A PVC or cardboard mini soccer goal is affordable and lightweight. Because it is a DIY goal, you get to choose your preferred dimensions for convenient indoor use.

As the Official Partner of the U.S. Soccer Federation, Loctite understands how much fun playing this sport can be, especially when the whole family gets involved. Whether you are looking to build a goal for indoor practice or just for family fun, our simple guide will help you bring your idea to life. Read below for a step-by-step guide on how to build a mini soccer goal.

How to build an indoor soccer goal using PVC pipes

Build a compact and portable PVC goal by following these steps.

1. Gather supplies: You will need:

2. Cut the pipes to size: Use a tube cutter or a handsaw to cut all the PVC pipes to the correct length. Indoor soccer goal dimensions tend to be smaller due to space limitations. A suitable fit for a size 5 soccer ball is 1.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide.

With that in mind, you'll need:

  • Two 2.5-foot pipes (one for the crossbar and the other for the rear bottom base bar)
  • Two 1.5-foot pipes for the two upright posts
  • Two 2-foot pipes for the base supports connected to the back bar

3. Assemble the frame: Now that you have all the different pieces together, assemble the goal to see if everything fits perfectly. Use the rounded PVC corners to connect the pipe pieces until you have a complete frame.

The two rounded PVC corners at the bottom of the upright posts transition backward to the base bars, which connect to the rear bottom bar.

4. Apply PVC glue: Once you are comfortable with how everything fits together, you can proceed to glue the components. Disconnect the PVC corners and use Loctite Super Glue Plastic Bonding System to secure the joints. To bond plastics with this two-part formula, first prime the surfaces using the provided activator before applying the glue. Apply glue to the pipe ends to avoid pushing a bead of glue into the interior of the joint. Remember to adjust the position of the corners before the glue sets. Repeat this process with the remaining connectors, ensuring they fit and are properly positioned.

5. Fit the net: If you don’t have a net lying around, you can buy a roll of plastic hex netting from your local hardware store. Place the net over the goal frame and mark where to cut with a marker. Use scissors to trim the net to the correct size.

6. Secure the net: After trimming the net, use zip ties to hold it securely in place. Use flush cut wire cutters or nail clippers to trim the zip tie tails flush for a neat, scratch-free finish.

7. Enjoy: If you want two mini goals, repeat the steps above for the second one. Once it is finished, your kids can enjoy using your new portable structure in the playroom, hallway, or living room.

How to make a mini goal using cardboard

1. Get the necessary supplies: You will need:

2. Choose a suitable size: You may use the same dimensions (1.5 feet by 2.5 feet) as the PVC mini goal.

3. Draw a goal shape: Measure the cardboard and use a marker to draw a soccer goal outline in the desired size on the cardboard.

4. Cut out the different goal pieces: Use scissors or a utility knife to cut out the goal shape. You will need one piece for the top, two for the sides, and one for the back. The back piece works as the goal net and doubles as a rebounder.

5. Glue the pieces together: Apply Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control to the edges of your cutouts, press the pieces together, and create a mini goal. You can start by gluing one side to the top, and then the other before attaching the back piece. For stability, the sides should be square to the back.

6. Reinforce the joints: Provide added support along the joints by attaching extra strips of cardboard. This will ensure added durability for the structure.

7. Leave to dry: Once you finish the assembly process, let the glue dry completely before giving it to your kids. Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control sets in a matter of seconds and cures in 12 to 24 hours.

8. Spice things up: To add more fun and give it a unique look, personalize your cardboard goal by painting it in your favorite colors or decorating it with exciting stickers of famous players, their autographs, or soccer flags.
